Note: I actually voted zero times. But Obama does seem like a genuinely good candidate so that's something :) .

Don't blame prop 8 on the Mormons. Blame prop 8 on every proponent of gay marriage that did things the easy way. Getting a judge in California--hell, anywhere in the 9th circuit--to rule in favor of it wasn't exactly a challenge of Olympian magnitude. Now we see how easily it was all undone.

I hate trying to explain American government checks and balances to my neighbors. They all think that it will be a smooth ride for Obama.

It should be easier to explain to an Aussie than anyone else. Their system is a hybrid between our way and Westminster. The main difference seems to be that their states have fewer powers and responsibilities independent of the central government than ours.
