Yes, Graves' Disease and the subsequent surgeries have greatly altered my appearance. Which is why you'll hardly ever see pictures of me. :flowers:

Wow, I didn't know you have Graves. That's nasty. Is the surgery an option?

The next surgery we could do would be purely cosmetic to fix the eyelids so that I look somewhat like I used to. One, I'm a bit over having surgeries at this time and Two, we don't have that kind of money, we're still paying off the loan on the first surgery.

You guys don't have any kind of Medical Insurance from your jobs? Forgive my ignorance, I don't know how the Medical Insurance industry works in Australia.

We have Medicare, government funded insurance.
But, the first ophthalmologist who did the first surgery does not work through the public system, he's private. And we didn't have a choice as Professor Sullivan is the only doctor qualified in Queensland to do the type surgery I needed. Therefore, Hugh had 24 hours to secure a personal loan (thank the llama he's got excellent credit) as the hospital he operated through wanted the money upfront. We did get some of it refunded by Medicare though.

Medicare is Australia's publicly-funded universal health care system, operated by the government authority Medicare Australia. Medicare is intended to provide affordable treatment by doctors and in public hospitals for all resident citizens and permanent residents except for those on Norfolk Island. Residents with a Medicare card can receive subsidised treatment from medical practitioners who have been issued a Medicare provider number, and fully subsidised treatment in public hospitals. Visitors from countries which have reciprocal arrangements with Australia have limited access to Medicare, as detailed below.

Ah.
No, surgeries aren't particularly fun.
