Anyone seen this mind bender yet? Saw it a few weeks ago; it's very ambitious but it probably requires 2 or 3 or 6 viewings to really get a decent grasp of all its ideas, references, and themes... What did you think? Is Kaufman a genius or a madman?

On the strength of "Man on the Moon" I'd say genius; I'll have to source this one and give it a look (or six).

This was another Charlie Kaufman one, wasn't it? Yet another movie I wanted to see in the theaters and missed 'cause I was busy.
Alright, bitch session over. I'll have to check it out. I'm glad to see you're back, Bop, and I miss threads like these.

I always think really great writers are a. more than a little nuts, b. Not unfamiliar with booze and /or drugs (Fitzgerald, Faulkner, O'Neil, O'Brien to name just a few), and c. obsessed. They may not be all of those , but one or two. Eternal Sunshine ... couldn't even be done by someone who wasn't . I do want to see this. But, I sometimes HATE movie theaters, so I'll wait to rent it or watch it when it comes to cable.

You can tell that Kaufmann is a nervous wreck in real life, because only someone with vicious anxiety problems (and not a little self-doubt) could've written Adaptation as well as he did. I haven't seen this yet, but I've enjoyed every other movie with a Kaufman script that I've seen, so I'll check it out and report back.

^ That so very true. And very well said. You can't write about crazy( Or anxious or whatever term one wnts to plug in here) without having a brief encounter with it.

Adaptation was a good movie, but one I'll probably never watch again, because it so accurately evoked an anxious mood. Not a "comfortable" movie to watch, but well worth seeing once. Watching that movie is what I suspect dropping acid with Woody Allen would be like.
