Samsung SyncMaster 226bw. Starting recently if I turn off my comp or restart it, the monitor flickers. I usually have it running most of the time and had forgotten about it (only happened once or twice). I shut down the computer this morning and when I started it up now the monitor is flickering and won't stop. It's not the video card or cable. I unplugged everything and it still flickers even when not plugged in to the comp (onscreen display looking for an analog or digital signal, otherwise I wouldn't know it was flickering. I'm afraid it may be dead. :(
Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

If it flickers even when there is no signal input, the probably it's some issue with the backlight. You might be able to confirm by turning out all your lights and then bringing the monitor's brightness setting up to its maximum, so that the light from the backlight bleeds through the screen. If the light bleeding through flickers, then that's probably the issue. In that case, you're probably best off getting a new monitor.
Also, according to Google your problem is fairly common with that monitor.

I've gotten quite a few years out of this one before it happened, so it's all good. Hate to have to spend the money on a new monitor just yet, but I'm gonna keep my eye out for a good deal on something similarly sized or bigger. Meanwhile, this one stops flickering after about 10 mins or so, but it's annoying and certainly seems on its way out. :(
