i didn't get very far in wc3 before i got bored and gave up. i think i've outgrown rts games. i've also largely outgrown fps games, too, as i'm discovering with unreal 2.
actually, i've been having the most fun lately with jak and daxter type platform games. who knew someone could grow into platformers, rather than grow out of them...

man, you are REALLY regretting paying money for that, aren't you?
actually, no. it's not a bad game, and if there's one thing i have always loved about the unreal series (the real unreal series, not unreal tournament), it's the amazing visuals and vast explorable landscapes. i used to enjoy playing the original, and i wished the monsters and guns would be removed so i could just explore. it was sooooo purdy! this one's really beautiful too. the landscapes are just stunning and the character models are sweet. it LOOKS amazing. the gameplay is just slightly above average. which is still good.
i'm not regretting buying it, i'm just noticing that i'm not getting as much out of it as i would have 5 years ago. the only thing i'm really enjoying right now is the sniping. i'm deadly with the sniper rifle.

Is Arcanum any good Sandman?
I like it a lot. The gameplay is fun and the ideas in the game are great (Dungeons and Dragons meets nineteenth century steam engine technology).
Also, political issues of the turn of the century are grafted onto the world- the situation of the orcs for example is like the situation of Immigrants/Blacks at that time. When they eventually hold up the factory, you can either help them or kill their Union Leader. (All Labor Agitators must Die, IMHO)
The writing for the game is also very finely done, and captures the eloquence of the late victorian era. And the music, although a bit repetitive, is a collection of wonderful string quartet arrangements.
First time characters should go the magic route - having beat the game with both a Magic supermodel summoner slut and a Firearms/explosives person.

From the beginning, I picked a woman with the "supermodel" trait which gives you Charisma and Beauty at the expense of intelligence- and from there did quests for Madam Lil where you travel the city to "Service" clients to get XP for magic- summoning. With high charisma, I had half the followers in the game following me by the time I finished, and when she got into scuffles, she could summon two ogre warriors aided by the mob of followers. And because of the charisma, I was able to prevent WWI because of negotiating a truce between the two biggest powers in the game.

how is that? i've heard mixed reviews.
Freaking unbelivable. Amazingly done. I love that game. The fighting system is fan-phucking-tastic.
